The United States Army has a promotional slogan that says they need “a few good men.” Perhaps they mean by this that “a few good men” can do the job that needs to be done in the military. Today’s newspaper and Internet news carried a report by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life.  The story covered the results of a religious survey of 35,000 Americans.  I went beyond the news story and examined the original survey that the Forum has made public and have discovered some very interesting as well as alarming facts that reflect what Americans believe and don’t believe. Do you teach and train your children at home rather than send them to the public or private schools of the community? If so, I hope you will thoughtfully consider this short message.

Although there are a wide range of different kinds of parents who educate their children at home, frequently they are a unique sort of people. They are willing to sacrifice their time, energies, finances, convenience, and even their acceptance by some disapproving relatives and friends. Home-schoolers are very conscious of the secularistic, humanistic, and worldly elements of public education. (more)

GOD'S AMAZING CREATURES

One of the most interesting insects of the natural world is the tiny ant. There are over twelve thousand different species.

Ants are called “social insects” because they live in groups and help one another in different ways....The ant has been a serious problem for those who believe in evolution.

Many ants have been found in hardened tree sap. According to the speculations of evolutionary chrono- logists (which are not correct), these ants lived millions of years ago, yet these preserved little creatures are virtually identical to the ants that live today!

God created the family for His purposes and for our good. I am now in my thirtieth year of marriage to one wife; I will be forever grateful to my parents; they gave me the first birth, without which the second is certainly not possible; they cared for me; they fed, clothed, and educated me. Moreover, the Lord commands that I honor them. I am thankful to God for making me the father of five children and for what He taught me through that experience. Yes, God created the family, but as with any good thing created by God, it can become an idol.

A Sincere and Friendly Invitation

 
I Invite You ...

Yesterday I sat at the bedside of a friend whom I’ll call John (all names have been changed).  I felt helpless.  John’s body was invaded with cancer in multiple organs and he was filled with pain.  I spoke but this friend was speechless.  I prayed but there was no response.  I was powerless to change the situation and knew that I could not reach his heart or bring conviction to his conscience under these circumstances.  Three hours after I left, John’s earthly life ended.  He departed to meet God in judgment—the God he had neglected in life.  There is no indication that he ever seriously considered God, showed a sincere interest in his soul, or thoughtfully pondered where he would spend eternity.  And now it is too late—it is forever too late.  All opportunity to change has vanished. CALIFORNIA
HOMOSEXUAL LAWS

Today’s Star-Telegram (June 18, 2008) ran a report detailing the first day of legal homosexual unions in California.  The article stated that hundreds were “wed” on this first day of state unions.

Although we can be glad that Texas will not recognize these California unions, it is time for us to remember again the reason why we oppose this kind of relationship and union.  God, our holy and righteous Creator, chose to make one man and one woman—Adam and Eve.

True or False?

The latest "star" among the Christian world is Joel Osteen, pastor of nondenominational Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas. Osteen claims the nation’s largest congregation with over 30,000 members. Lakewood recently purchased the colossal Compaq Center, formerly home of the NBA’s Houston Rockets. (more)

After resuming work on the True Discipleship website in the summer of 2007, God has enabled us to place many more articles for your blessing.  Originally, a friend, Tony McGee, set the site up about seven or eight years ago.  The basic structure and some articles were posted, with a total of about 65 files on the site over the years.  We are very grateful for his initiation and the interest in this beginning effort to make key articles available to you.  At present, there are over 700 articles and another hundred are ready for posting—when we can find the opportunity to do this.

THE TERROR OF DEATH:
CAUSES AND CURES

There are numerous examples from history of valiant Christians who went to their deaths as martyrs, singing hymns and happily praising God. How were they able to exude such a joyful demeanor? Whence their sense of fearlessness that seems to elude so many today?

Death has been depicted as the “king of terrors.” Such was the descriptive of Bildad, one of Job’s erstwhile friends (Job 18:14). His sentiment has been shared by countless others.
