HOMOSEXUALS
IN THE DENOMINATIONS
Increasingly, certain elements within liberal
denominations are pressing for full acceptance of homosexuals
within their membership. The twelve western states and
the New England states of the United Methodist
Church have called for total participation of
homosexuals in their church (Star-Telegram, July 22, 2000).
Many in the Episcopal Church likewise
call for full inclusion of practicing homosexuals. Shockingly,
many go so far as to demand that homosexuals be admitted
to the clergy itself!
What is wrong with this disturbing movement
in liberal denominations? The answer is simple: Far from
permitting homosexuals in the ministry, Scripture is clear
that homosexuals (along with fornicators, adulterers, and
other sexual offenders) are not even permitted to be members of
the body of Christ or community of God! Practicing homosexuals
or sodomites must be removed from fellowship (1
Corinthians 5:11-13). God goes so far as to say that a
homosexual (as long as he or she remains in this sin) cannot
inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-10) but will
be judged by the Lord (Hebrews 13:4; Revelation 21:8).
God will not stop denominations from making
their own decisions regarding homosexuals and other practicing
sexual offenders. But no one can rightfully claim that
God condones their pronouncements. God has already spoken
loudly, clearly, and unmistakably
on this issue. Regardless of what liberal churches
or society at large chooses to do about the role of male
and female homosexuals, those who are committed to the
authority of God reflected in His Word, the Scriptures,
must say No to the religious homosexual agenda.
